October 14, 2010

Maybe since I'm from a different generation - a nice to way to say I"m much older - I just don't understand what these kids get out of these games - I really think they are boring.  I remember being in high school and going to the game rooms.  I would beg my boyfriend to take me home, but he just couldn't tear himself away from Pac Man - I mean it was fun for a few turns, but not for hours!  How do these kids sit and play these games for hours! I got my daughter's DS out and play some zombie game she had on it.  Flesh eating zombies came after you, and you were supposed to work your way through the maze of junk laying around killing the zombies in the meantime - just another Pac Man type game.  I was fun for about 15 minutes, but then I didn't advance - most likely because I stink at these things - and it just got too boring.  I guess I'm just not a gamer - so what am I doing in this class! HA HA

October 3, 2010

Well, I played around with Second Life last night again, and once again I do not see why people get so into these virtual reality/simulation games.  I thnk it's rather BORING!  I did go to some different places - halloween areas and some ghost tried to take my soul, but I just kept moving around and he eventualy left me alone.  There were some other people in the haunted area - about 4 or 5 - they were talking to each other, but no one said anything to me.  I feel kinds silly saying this, but I was a little nervous that they would, Ididn't know what to say - do you act yourself in these situations or do you role play.  You have created this alter person so do you take on any persona you want?  I feel silly because why would I care what this avatars think of me!  They don't know anything aboutme nor do I of them - who know where these people are even from.  I guess this could be what so many people so in this type of game - go into these rooms, meet people to chat with and be anybody, act anyway you want to - no one will ever know truly who you are.  I feel that these people are hiding behind their computers because they are too scared to face life - really sad when you think about it.

September 20, 2010

I know this is no excuse, but I keep forgetting to post to this thing!  Last weekend my son came in from college and I had him set his Beatles Rockband up so we could play and I could see what was so fun about it.  I decided to play the bass - it was the easiest, my son played guitar and my daughter played the drums.  Was it that I love the Beatles and love singing along to their songs?  Was it the fact that I was hanging out with my kids which doesn't happen very often now that they have gotten older?  I don't know which one it was, but it was alot of fun!  Of course, my fingers weren't very nimble and I never had many points, but watching the graphics on screen, singing along, and trying to keep up really was fun.  My son was fantastic at it - he started taking banjo lessons this summer, and says that playing the guitar on rockband has helped him alot with finger placement and agility.  My daugther wasn't the best at the drums, but she enjoyed trying to keep up and we all enjoy belting out Hey Jude - out of tune of course.  I see where this type of game could be alot of fun for families.  It brings them together in a good old fashion way - like back in my days when we used to play board games!

Ok, I was reading my fellow classmates blogs and wanted to comment on a couple, but couldn't figure it out!  I really am feeling a little stupid right now.  I wrote my nice long comment and went to submit, but it didn't post and then wanted me to put in facebook account and allow it to repost to my facebook account and on and on and on .........  Technology is not my friend right now - I just get SO frustrated and give up easily - does any one know what I'm talking about and can give me short concise directions on how to comment on someones blog?  I am hoping that by the end of this sememster, technology is my BFF :0)

August 31, 2010

Well, I was on Second-life again trying to figure out why people might see this as fun!  I'm sure that since I do not understand it's concept nor how to move around in the game, is the main reason I do not see any fun in this.  Once again I could not figure out how to move to another spot.  I am at the Velvet Club and no one else is there - it's lonely!  I wanted to move elsewhere, but couldn't figure it out - I'm going to be a very boring person on Second-life!

August 25, 2010

Well, today I signed up for Second Life, and quite frankly see how this is going to be any fun.  I made my avatar - Darcey Diescher - dressed myself and went out on the town to a new "hip" bar playing alternative music.  Well, no one was there and I didn't hear any music playing!  I moved around trying to figure out what was to do here and couldn't figure anything out.  I've never played anything like this before, and know I have ALOT to learn, but I hope it gets a little more exciting or else it will be a boring sememster :0)
